The Institute for Behavioral Health provides assessment and treatment programs for children, teens and adults with attention deficit disorders, impulsivity, oppositional defiant disorders, conduct problems, anger problems, anxiety disorders, depression, traumatic stress and social difficulties.

The Institute's program emphasizes the development of self-control using a cognitive behavioral model. By addressing four major areas with clients, they are better able to:

  • Accurately perceive and understand their problems and the situations in which they occur.
  • Remain calm and focused, responding appropriately to demand and stress.
  • Think through various courses of action to maximize their current and future success.
  • Behave assertively, rather than tentatively or aggressively, in order to influence their surroundings effectively while achieving dignity, respect and improved self-esteem.

Treatment for children virtually always involves the family, either as collaterals or as full participants in sessions. Parent training and parent feedback are an integral part of the Institute's treatment approach. School involvement, classroom observations and consultations with the teacher, is quite common.

Services at IBH are delivered by licensed psychologists and certified social workers. We assist families in obtaining insurance benefits. We accept assignment when insurance companies agree to assist clients with reimbursement, but we do not participate in managed care plans, so generally, you will need out of network benefits to get your insurance company to pay. Sliding scale fees may be available for some services.  Click here to learn more about any of our programs including Play Attention, BrainTrain, Social Skills Groups, Treatment Services, Calm Parenting Groups or Follow Through Program, Kid-Help Kredits, Evaluations for self or child, Help with insurance, Individual Therapy or setting up an appointment.

What are "Calm Parenting" TeleClasses?  TeleClasses are conference calls. You will be given access to a special telephone line so you can join Dr. Ken Kaufman as well as other in-person or on the phone participants in actual live Calm Parenting Groups. In each session, there is instruction and discussion about how to implement the Calm Parenting Ingredients with your child. You get to participate from your home.  Click here to learn more about TeleClasses.
